Are Cruises a good vacation choice for groups?
Last month, we hosted two groups of friends aboard the Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas. One friend from grade school was celebrating her wedding anniversary, and our other group was celebrating a birthday. It was super fun because it was the first cruise for both of our friend groups.
Cruises are a fantastic way to celebrate with a small and large groups. For me, a group is three or more people. With so many activities and non-activities available on a cruise ship, there is something for everyone.
Are cruises a good vacation for families and family reunions?
The day after our wedding, Hannah and I embarked on a four-day “Honeymoon Cruise” with 33 friends and family members. This cruise was the perfect way to extend our wedding reception by four additional days.
For a wedding couple, the wedding reception is such a blur, so the cruise was a beautiful gift that gave us time to mix and mingle with our beloved family and friends. The cruise also gave our siblings and other family members time to get to know each other on excursions and during various activities aboard the cruise ship.
Our only scheduled activities were dinner together each night and a cocktail party on the last day of the cruise. For the rest of each day, everyone pursued their own interests. Sometimes, as if by magic, many of us found each other dining together for breakfast or lunch.
During the day, some of the group lounged by the swimming pool, soaking up the sun. Other family members found a secluded spot aboard the ship to relax and catch up on some reading. One family member finished four books in four days! Wow!
After dinner, the evenings were a mixed lot. Some people visited the dance clubs, while others (including Hannah and me) relished karaoke. Others passed their time with the “one-armed bandits” in the casino while some caught a comedy show or other live entertainment.
We all pursued our desires, and everyone had a fantastic time!
If you’re considering taking a cruise this year or even inviting friends and family along for the ride, as Nike would say, JUST DO IT!
